The HERTEL K008003AS is a straight flute tap designed for cutting 0-80 UNF internal threads in small-diameter applications. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, this tap delivers reliable performance in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a standard finish is appropriate. The plug chamfer style makes it suitable for threading through-holes as well as moderately deep blind holes. With an overall length of 1.625 inches and a thread length of 0.3125 inches, this is a precision tool sized for fine-pitch miniature fastener applications. Installation is typically performed by machinists, tool and die makers, or maintenance technicians working with small-scale threaded assemblies.
This tap is used in production and maintenance environments where 0-80 UNF threads are required in small components such as instrument housings, optical assemblies, electronics enclosures, and precision mechanical parts. The 2-flute straight flute design suits softer to medium-hardness materials and provides adequate chip clearance in short threading operations. The 2B class of fit is the standard commercial tolerance class for most general-purpose threaded fastener applications, providing a functional fit without excessive play.
Designed as a standard replacement or production tap for any application requiring 0-80 UNF internal threads to a 2B class of fit tolerance.
This tap should be used with a properly sized tap wrench or tapping head and appropriate cutting fluid for the material being threaded. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is aligned square to the hole before beginning the threading operation. Follow all applicable shop safety practices, including eye protection and secure workholding. Do not force the tap if resistance increases unexpectedly, as breakage of small-diameter taps is common when excessive torque is applied.
