The HERTEL K007122AS is a spiral point STI tap designed for cutting Screw Thread Insert (STI) threads in a 7/16-14 UNC pattern. It is manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish. The plug chamfer style makes it suited for through-hole tapping applications. With 3 flutes and a spiral point geometry, the tap pushes chips forward through the cut rather than packing them behind the tool, keeping the cutting zone clear. Overall length is 3-19/32 inches with a thread length of 1-21/32 inches. Thread limit is H3, controlling tolerance for a proper fit with standard Helicoil-style inserts. This tap is used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals.
This tap is used wherever a damaged or stripped internal thread needs to be restored using a wire thread insert system. The STI profile creates an oversized thread that accepts a coiled insert, which when installed provides a standard 7/16-14 UNC internal thread. Typical applications include repairing threads in aluminum, cast iron, and steel components in industrial, aerospace, and general maintenance environments. The Helicoil reference number for this tap is 7CSB. It is sold and packaged as a single tap per unit.
Designed for use in STI UNC thread insert systems. Helicoil reference number 7CSB. Produces the correct oversized pilot thread to accept standard 7/16-14 UNC wire thread inserts in through-hole applications.
This tap is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a standard tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC machine with appropriate speed and feed for the workpiece material. The hole must be drilled to the correct STI tap drill size for 7/16-14 UNC before tapping — consult the insert manufacturer's drill chart for the proper diameter. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Follow all machine guarding and lockout/tagout procedures before performing thread repair on installed equipment.
