The HERTEL HTVCMX221420CD is a Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) turning insert engineered for precision single-point turning operations on non-ferrous metals, composites, and abrasive materials. Carrying manufacturer grade HT420CD, this uncoated insert features a diamond (V) shape with a 0.25 inch inscribed circle and a 1/64 inch (0.0156 inch) corner radius. The PCD cutting material delivers exceptional wear resistance and long tool life in high-speed finishing applications. Screw-held mounting provides secure clamping in compatible toolholders. This insert is sized at insert size code 221 with a 0.125 inch insert thickness, making it a precise-fit replacement for demanding turning setups in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for CNC turning centers and manual lathes performing finish or semi-finish cuts on aluminum, copper alloys, carbon fiber reinforced plastics, and other abrasive non-ferrous workpiece materials. The diamond insert shape and tight tolerance code M allow close-tolerance profiling and facing passes. The X chip breaker geometry supports efficient chip control in high-speed light-depth cuts. Machinists and tooling specialists in production shops, aerospace component machining, and automotive parts manufacturing are the primary end users.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting HT-VCMX style inserts with a 0.173 inch hole diameter, insert size code 221, tolerance code M, and clearance code C. Confirm toolholder specifications before ordering.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion has ceased before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-recommended screw torque procedure for screw-held inserts to avoid seat damage. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the new insert.
