The HERTEL HTVCMX2205420CD is a Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) turning insert designed for precision metal cutting and finishing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the HT-VCMX insert style with a diamond (V) shape, it features a 0.25 inch inscribed circle, a 0.125 inch thickness, and a 0.0078 inch corner radius. The HT420CD grade is uncoated PCD, suited for high-speed machining of non-ferrous materials, composites, and abrasive workpiece materials where carbide tooling wears prematurely. Screw-held mounting provides secure clamping during interrupted or continuous turning passes. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary users.
This insert is used in external and internal turning applications requiring tight tolerances and fine surface finishes. PCD grade HT420CD is particularly well suited for aluminum alloys, copper, brass, reinforced plastics, and carbon-fiber composites. The diamond shape with clearance code C and tolerance code M supports moderate to light depth-of-cut operations where dimensional accuracy is critical. The X chip breaker geometry assists with chip control in softer, ductile non-ferrous materials. It is sold individually, making it practical for low-volume replacement or tooling trials.
Designed for use in HT-VCMX-style toolholders accepting a diamond-shaped insert with a 0.25 inch inscribed circle, clearance code C, tolerance code M, and screw-clamping retention. Consult your toolholder documentation to confirm insert style and size code 220.5 fitment before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the clamping screw and ensure the insert seats fully in the pocket before tightening. PCD inserts are extremely hard but brittle — avoid contact with ferrous workpieces and do not use on hardened steels, as impact or improper application can chip the cutting edge.
