The HERTEL HTDCMX2151420CD is a Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) turning insert designed for precision machining of non-ferrous metals, composites, and abrasive materials. Manufactured in the HT-DCMX insert style with a diamond (D) shape, this insert features a 0.25 inch (6.35 mm) inscribed circle, a corner radius of 0.0156 inches, and an uncoated PCD cutting edge. Grade HT420CD delivers the extreme hardness and wear resistance characteristic of PCD tooling, making it suited for high-speed finishing and semi-finishing passes where tool life and surface finish consistency are critical. Machinists and CNC operators in production turning environments install this insert into compatible toolholders using the screw-clamp holding method specified by the DCMX style.
This insert is intended for turning operations on materials such as aluminum alloys, copper, brass, reinforced plastics, carbon fiber composites, and other abrasive non-ferrous workpieces. The diamond insert shape with a C clearance angle and M tolerance code makes it well suited for medium to light finishing cuts in both OD turning and profiling applications. Chip breaker code X provides chip control geometry appropriate for the insert geometry. It is sold individually and is a direct fit for DCMX-style screw-clamp toolholders designed for the 21.51 insert size code.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for DCMX-style screw-clamp turning toolholders accepting the 21.51 insert size code with a diamond (D) shape and C clearance designation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the clamp screw — do not overtighten, as PCD inserts are brittle and susceptible to edge chipping from improper clamping. Verify insert seating and shim condition before resuming cutting operations.
