The HERTEL HTCPMX2151420CD is a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) turning insert designed for precision machining applications requiring extreme hardness and wear resistance. Manufactured in the HT-CPMX insert style with a diamond-shaped geometry (Shape Code C), this insert features a 1/4 inch inscribed circle and a 1/64 inch corner radius. The uncoated bright finish is standard for PCD tooling, where the diamond substrate itself provides the cutting performance. This insert is held in place by a screw-clamp system and is intended for use by machinists and CNC tooling specialists in production turning operations.
This insert is suited for turning applications involving non-ferrous materials, composites, and other abrasive workpiece materials where PCD tooling delivers extended tool life over carbide alternatives. The HT420CD manufacturer grade and Material Grade C2 classification make it appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing cuts. The chip breaker designation X and clearance code P define its cutting geometry for controlled chip formation in light to moderate depth-of-cut scenarios on CNC lathes and turning centers.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting HT-CPMX style inserts with a diamond shape code C, 1/4 inch inscribed circle, and screw-clamp retention. Verify toolholder pocket specifications against insert geometry before installation.
PCD turning inserts are installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down or in an e-stop state before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as PCD substrates are brittle and susceptible to edge chipping from improper clamping. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or debris before installation to ensure full contact and accurate positioning.
