The HERTEL HTCNMX431420CD is a Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) turning insert designed for precision single-point turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured to grade HT420CD, this uncoated insert features a diamond (C) insert shape with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. The PCD construction delivers exceptional hardness and wear resistance, making it suitable for high-speed finishing and semi-finishing of non-ferrous metals, composites, and abrasive materials. Machinists and CNC programmers specify this insert when surface finish and dimensional consistency are critical. It is held using a clamp and pin system and carries a clearance code of N with tolerance code M.
This insert is intended for use in turning centers and lathes where tight tolerances and fine surface finishes are required. The HT-CNMX insert style and X chip breaker geometry suit high-speed applications on aluminum alloys, copper, brass, carbon fiber reinforced polymers, and similar non-ferrous or abrasive workpiece materials. The 3/16-inch insert thickness and 0.203-inch hole diameter conform to standard toolholder seat requirements for CNMX-style pockets, making it a direct fit in compatible toolholding systems. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of one.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement for CNMX-style insert pockets accepting a C insert shape with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thickness, and a 0.203-inch hole diameter. Verify toolholder designation against the insert style code HT-CNMX before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down and in an e-stop or lockout-tagout state per applicable shop safety procedures. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket before engaging the clamp and pin; do not use the clamping torque to draw the insert into position. Inspect the pocket seat for chips or debris before indexing to a fresh edge, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature edge failure. Handle PCD inserts with care, as the cutting edges are brittle and susceptible to chipping from impact.
