The HERTEL H82331687 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Configured in the 16IR/EL style for right-hand cutting, it features a 0.089-inch cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.089 inches. The insert is finished with a TiC and TiN multilayer coating to improve wear resistance and extend tool life. A 15-degree rake angle and 10-degree external relief angle support clean chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC turning specialists in production and job-shop environments.
This grooving insert is suited for external grooving applications on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials in both production and precision turning operations. The 16IR/EL insert style fits compatible right-hand grooving toolholders designed for that insert seat geometry. The manufacturer grade HG220TR is targeted at applications within the maximum depth of cut range of 0.075 to 0.100 inches, making it appropriate for shallow-groove and snap-ring groove work on small-diameter parts. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.004-inch corner radius provide stable seating and a controlled edge profile.
Designed for use in right-hand grooving toolholders with a 16IR/EL insert seat geometry. Verify toolholder seat dimensions and clamping style before installation to confirm proper fit.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a locked-out, powered-down state per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct torque wrench or insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when seating the insert clamp screw. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Never exceed the rated maximum depth of cut, as doing so may cause insert fracture or toolholder damage.
