The HERTEL H82331539 is a solid carbide grooving insert designed for external and internal grooving and threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert carries the 16ER/IL style designation and is finished with a TiC and TiN multilayer coating for improved wear resistance and heat dissipation during interrupted cuts. The right-hand orientation, 0.039-inch cutting width, and 0.055-inch maximum depth of cut make it suited to tight-tolerance groove work in steel, stainless, and similar machinable alloys. Machinists and toolroom technicians select this insert for applications where consistent chip control and dimensional repeatability are required on moderate to high production runs.
The H82331539 fits standard 16ER/IL-style toolholders used in external and internal grooving applications. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.050-inch insert thickness are consistent with compact turning tool setups found on gang-slide and turret lathes. The 15-degree rake angle and 10-degree external relief angle are suited to finishing and light roughing passes in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. This insert is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units, making it appropriate for shop stocking or job-lot procurement.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for 16ER/IL-style grooving insert seats in standard 16-series external and internal grooving toolholders. Verify toolholder seat geometry and insert hand orientation before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down, spindle locked, and all stored energy released per your facility lockout/tagout procedure. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the clamping screw. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear, debris, or damage before seating the new insert. Confirm cutting direction and insert hand orientation match the programmed toolpath before resuming operation.
