The HERTEL H59873398 is a solid carbide boring insert designed for precision internal boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. This uncoated triangular insert carries a 60-degree included angle, a 15-degree relief angle, and a 0.007-inch corner radius, making it well suited for finishing passes and tight-tolerance bores where edge sharpness and dimensional control are critical. The insert is manufactured to material grade C25 and carries manufacturer grade HT310B. At 0.0469 inches thick with a 5/32-inch (0.1563-inch) inscribed circle, it is a compact insert intended for small-bore toolholders. Installation is by screw-clamp holding method. Machinists and tooling specialists install and index this insert on the shop floor or in the field.
This insert is used in metalworking applications where internal diameter boring of ferrous and non-ferrous materials is required. The uncoated solid carbide construction makes it appropriate for applications where a coated insert would mask edge geometry or where re-grinding is part of the tooling program. Typical install scenarios include production turning cells, job-shop lathes, and boring bar setups requiring a small inscribed circle. Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down, spindle locked, and all stored energy released per the machine tool manufacturer lockout/tagout procedure. Use the correct torque driver or wrench specified by the toolholder manufacturer for the clamp screw - do not overtighten, as solid carbide inserts are brittle and will crack under excessive clamping load. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Dispose of worn inserts per facility carbide recycling procedures.
