The HERTEL H59873166 is a solid carbide boring insert designed for precision internal boring operations on metalworking equipment. Manufactured to the CDHH insert style in grade HC620B, this insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a 15-degree relief angle and a 1/64 inch (0.0150 inch) corner radius. The CVD-applied multilayer coating sequence of TiN, TiC, TiCN, and TiN over the C7 carbide substrate delivers improved wear resistance and thermal protection at the cutting edge. Screw-mounted and left-hand oriented, this insert is suited for CNC boring bars and precision boring heads used in production turning and boring applications.
This insert is appropriate for finish and semi-finish boring in ferrous materials where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are critical. The 5/32 inch inscribed circle (0.1563 inch IC) and 0.0400 inch thickness are consistent with small-diameter boring applications. A left-hand designation means it is intended for left-hand toolholders and boring bar systems. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on CNC lathes and machining centers in job shop or production environments are the primary installers.
Designed for use in left-hand screw-clamp boring bar toolholders that accept CDHH-style inserts with a 5/32 inch inscribed circle. Consult toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm seat geometry and screw size before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle powered down and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct torque driver and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert fully against the pocket walls without over-torquing. Inspect the insert seat and clamp screw for damage or debris before installing a new insert. Solid carbide inserts are brittle and should not be dropped or subjected to impact during handling.
