The HERTEL H59873158 is a solid carbide boring insert designed for precision internal boring operations on CNC and manual turning equipment. Manufactured to the CDHH insert style in size code 1.20.61, this insert features an 80-degree diamond shape and a 15-degree relief angle, making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where tight tolerances are required. The physical vapor deposition (PVD) titanium nitride (TiN) coating enhances surface hardness and wear resistance. The inscribed circle measures 5/32 inches (0.1563 inches decimal), the corner radius is 1/64 inches (0.0150 inches decimal), and the thickness is 0.04 inches. It is mounted via screw-lock insert holding and is configured for left-hand cutting.
This boring insert is intended for use in metal cutting applications where a C5 material grade carbide substrate is appropriate, including machining of cast iron, steel, and similar materials in production turning and boring operations. The insert is sold individually per package but carries a minimum order quantity of 10 units, making it suitable for shops maintaining consistent tooling inventories on multi-station boring bars and CNC lathes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or production-supply insert for boring bars and toolholders accepting CDHH-style screw-lock inserts with a 5/32-inch inscribed circle. Verify insert style, size code, and hand designation against toolholder specifications before ordering.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Disconnect and lock out machine power before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified seating procedure when securing the clamp screw; do not over-torque the mounting screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for debris or damage before installing a new insert.
