The HERTEL H59870444 is a steel indexable boring bar in the HBBS toolholder style, designed for internal diameter machining on lathes and boring mills. With a minimum bore diameter of 0.668 inches and a maximum bore depth of 4.5 inches, it handles a wide range of finish and semi-finish boring operations. The 0.5-inch round shank and 6-inch overall length suit standard tool blocks and turrets. Insert retention is by screw clamp, and the bar includes coolant-through capability to manage chip evacuation and heat at the cutting zone. Right-hand cut orientation. Compatible with TD and TP series inserts. Installed by machinists and tool-room professionals in production and job-shop environments.
This boring bar fits standard lathe turrets and CNC turning center tool blocks accepting a 0.5-inch shank. The 4.5-inch maximum bore depth supports moderately deep bores without requiring an extended-reach bar. Coolant-through design makes it well suited for steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpiece materials where chip control in deep bores is a concern. The screw-clamp insert seat provides repeatable edge location for consistent sizing across production runs. Right-hand cut configuration positions it for conventional front-tool-post and turret setups.
Designed to accept TD and TP series indexable inserts as specified by the manufacturer. Fits tool blocks and turrets with a 0.5-inch shank bore.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard toolroom practice. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts or setting tool offsets. Secure the shank fully within the tool block to the minimum engagement depth recommended for the holder diameter to prevent deflection and chatter. Follow the insert manufacturer torque guidance for the clamp screw using the appropriate Torx or hex key; do not overtighten, as this can fracture the insert or damage the seat.
