The HERTEL H59868174 is a steel indexable boring bar designed for precision internal boring operations on lathes and turning centers. Built to the HBBC toolholder style, it accepts CD-style inserts secured by a screw clamping method, providing repeatable insert positioning and rigid cutting performance. The bar features a 3/8-inch shank diameter, a 2.5-inch overall length, and a minimum bore diameter of 0.208 inches, making it well suited for small-bore finish and semi-finish applications. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and tool life in demanding cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the primary users of this tooling.
This boring bar is intended for small-diameter internal turning work where access is limited and precise bore geometry is required. The right-hand cut orientation makes it compatible with standard forward-turning setups on conventional and CNC lathes. A maximum bore depth of 1.0 inch keeps the application focused on shorter, controlled bores where rigidity and accuracy are priorities. It is appropriate for use in job shop, production machining, and toolroom environments working with a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials.
Designed to accept CD-style inserts. Verify insert grade, geometry, and nose radius selection against workpiece material and cut parameters before installation. Confirm shank-bore fit and holder clearance on the target machine before use.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with lathe tooling and cutting insert systems. Secure the shank fully within the tool post or turret bore to the recommended grip length before beginning any cut. Ensure the machine is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts or adjusting the boring bar position. Follow the insert manufacturer torque guidance for the clamping screw to avoid insert movement or damage during operation.
