The HERTEL H48442065 is a solid carbide boring insert designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. This insert carries the WPHT21.51 style designation and HP520B manufacturer grade, featuring a PVD-applied TiN coating over a C5 carbide substrate. The 80-degree trigon shape provides a sturdy cutting geometry, while the 11-degree relief angle reduces flank friction during operation. With a 1/64 inch (0.0150 inch) corner radius, this insert is suited for semi-finish to finish boring passes where tight dimensional control is required. It is secured via a screw-on holding method for positive, repeatable positioning in compatible boring heads and toolholders.
This insert is used in metal cutting applications involving internal diameter boring on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials where C5 carbide grade performance is appropriate. Typical installations include production turning on CNC machining centers, boring mills, and engine lathes performing finish or light roughing passes. The TiN coating improves wear resistance and extends tool life in moderate-speed cutting conditions. Machinists and toolroom operators working with boring bars, adjustable boring heads, or modular tooling systems will find this insert sized for 1/4 inch inscribed circle toolholders.
Designed for use in boring toolholders and boring heads that accept WPHT-style inserts with a 1/4 inch inscribed circle and 3/32 inch thickness. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping screw specification before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping screw are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications, not estimated by hand feel alone.
