The HERTEL H48442057 is a solid carbide uncoated boring insert in the WPGT style, designed for precision internal boring operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the HT540B manufacturer grade and features an 80-degree trigon shape with an HF1 chipbreaker geometry. The insert has a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, a 3/32-inch thickness, an 11-degree relief angle, and a 0.008-inch corner radius. Solid carbide construction at the C1 material grade delivers rigidity and wear resistance in controlled cutting environments. This insert is installed by machinists and tool-room technicians performing internal diameter finishing and semi-finishing operations.
This insert is suited for internal boring applications where tight tolerances and consistent chip control are required. The HF1 chipbreaker geometry supports effective chip evacuation in light-to-medium cutting passes. The uncoated carbide surface makes it well-matched for non-ferrous materials and applications where coating buildup on the cutting edge would be a concern. It mounts via screw-holding method into compatible WPGT-style boring bar toolholders. Typical use cases include production boring of bushings, sleeves, and bored housings in machine shop environments.
Designed for use in WPGT-style screw-clamp boring bar toolholders that accept a 1/4-inch inscribed circle trigon insert. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry, insert size code, and chipbreaker compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or replacing inserts. Use the manufacturer-recommended torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder specification — do not overtighten, as this can fracture solid carbide inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert, and confirm correct index position before returning the machine to service.
