The HERTEL H08713794 is a laydown threading insert designed for cutting internal NPT threads on a lathe or CNC turning center. Built from solid carbide with a TiC/TiN finish, it delivers the hardness and wear resistance required for production threading in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The insert features a right-hand cutting orientation, 8 threads per inch, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, and a 0.146 inch thickness. The 16IR style geometry seats in compatible laydown insert toolholders and maintains profile accuracy across repeated passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in pipe fitting, valve, and fluid-handling component production are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for threading internal NPT taper pipe threads in production and job-shop environments. It handles residential and commercial pipe thread applications where a consistent, leak-free thread form is required. The 8 TPI pitch corresponds to NPT thread sizing on common pipe diameters such as 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch nominal pipe. The solid carbide substrate and dual-layer TiC/TiN coating extend tool life in interrupted or continuous internal threading cuts.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for 16IR-style laydown threading toolholders used in internal NPT thread applications.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the correct torx or hex key torque driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to clamp the insert — do not overtighten by hand estimate. Verify insert seating and profile alignment before initiating a threading pass to avoid thread form errors or premature insert failure.
