The HERTEL H08702573 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for right-hand external threading operations on CNC lathes and manual threading setups. Built to the 16ER insert style, it covers a partial profile 60-degree thread form and handles a threads-per-inch range of 14 to 8 TPI, equivalent to a metric pitch range of 1.75 to 3.00 mm. The insert carries a TiC/TiN multilayer coating for improved wear resistance and surface finish on common ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. With a 0 degree relief angle, this is a true laydown geometry suited for tangential-style threading toolholders. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and tool-and-die technicians are the primary users.
This insert is intended for external thread cutting in turning center and lathe applications, both production and job-shop environments. The 60-degree partial profile geometry makes it suitable for cutting Unified (UN), ISO metric, and other standard 60-degree thread forms across the supported pitch range without requiring a dedicated insert for each pitch. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.146-inch thickness conform to standard 16ER toolholder pockets, making toolholder compatibility straightforward in most shops already running 16-series inserts.

Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state following applicable machine-specific lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not estimate torque by feel. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating; a contaminated pocket will cause insert rock and accelerate edge failure. Threading passes should begin at programmed feed rates appropriate to the workpiece material and pitch — verify CNC thread-cycle parameters before the first cut.
