The HERTEL H08694366 is a laydown threading insert designed for right-hand external UN thread cutting operations. Manufactured from solid carbide with a TiC/TiN coating, this insert delivers consistent thread form geometry and surface finish in demanding machining environments. The 16IR insert style seats in a laydown orientation, and the HG630TR grade provides the hardness and thermal resistance needed for high-speed threading on steel and similar workpiece materials. It is sized with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and 0.146 inch thickness, making it a direct fit for compatible laydown threading toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments will find this insert suited for both manual and automated threading cycles.
This insert is used for external UN thread cutting at 32 threads per inch on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. The right-hand thread orientation applies to the most common threading direction encountered in general-purpose machining of fasteners, fittings, and threaded rod. The solid carbide substrate with TiC/TiN finish makes it appropriate for interrupted cuts and moderate-to-high cutting speeds where high-speed steel tooling would wear prematurely. It is intended for use by machinists and toolroom technicians working in production or maintenance machining settings.
Designed for use in laydown threading toolholders accepting the 16IR insert style with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle. Confirm toolholder pocket dimensions and insert seating requirements before installation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion is locked out before changing inserts. Use the correct torque tool for the clamping screw to avoid insert cracking or improper seating. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or wear before installing a new insert.
