The HERTEL H08614869 is a steel indexable boring bar designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Built to the HBBQ toolholder style, it accepts WPGT inserts secured by a screw clamping method, providing reliable insert retention during interrupted and continuous cuts. The bar features a 3/8-inch shank diameter and an overall length of 5 inches, with a minimum bore diameter of 0.415 inches and a maximum bore depth of 1.5 inches. Coolant-through capability allows cutting fluid delivery directly to the cutting zone, supporting chip evacuation and tool life in deep-bore applications. This bar is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians working in production and job-shop environments.
This boring bar is suited for right-hand internal boring operations in both production and prototype machining environments. Its compact minimum bore diameter of 0.415 inches makes it appropriate for small-diameter bores where rigidity and clearance are critical. The screw-retained WPGT insert system allows for quick indexing without removing the bar from the holder, reducing setup time in high-mix operations. Typical applications include finish boring, semi-finish boring, and light roughing on steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous workpieces.
Designed for use with WPGT series inserts. Compatible with tool blocks and turrets accepting a 3/8-inch round shank boring bar. Refer to the HBBQ-S375R/L3-5.0-.415 system designation when cross-referencing with tooling catalogs.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or removing the boring bar from the turret or tool block. Ensure the shank is clamped securely with appropriate set screws torqued per machine tool manufacturer specifications. Verify insert seating and screw torque before resuming cutting operations, and confirm coolant-through passages are clear and properly aligned to the machine coolant supply.
