The HERTEL H08614802 is a solid carbide indexable boring bar designed for internal turning and precision bore finishing on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Built to the HBBG toolholder style, it accepts WPGT inserts secured by screw clamping, providing repeatable insert positioning and rigid tool engagement. The minimum bore diameter is 0.26 inches, the shank diameter is 3/16 inches, and the overall length is 6 inches. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and heat management during deep bore passes. This tool is intended for right-hand cutting and is specified for use by machinists and toolroom technicians running precision bore operations.
This boring bar suits small-diameter internal boring applications in job shops, production machining environments, and toolroom settings. It is appropriate for both ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials where tight bore tolerances are required. The 6-inch overall length supports a maximum bore depth of 1.87 inches, making it well suited for shallow-to-mid-depth bores in small-diameter work. The solid carbide body provides stiffness and vibration resistance compared to steel shanks of equivalent diameter, which is especially relevant at this shank size.
Designed for use with WPGT-style indexable inserts. The HBBG toolholder style is compatible with standard screw-clamp insert seating systems. Verify insert geometry and grade selection based on workpiece material and cutting parameters prior to setup.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool builder guidelines for boring bar setup and overhang limits. Secure the shank fully within the toolholder at the recommended minimum grip length to control deflection at this diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is at a full stop and all axis locks are engaged before inserting or removing the tool. Do not exceed the maximum bore depth specification or extend overhang beyond manufacturer guidelines, as doing so increases the risk of chatter and insert failure.
