The HERTEL H00208223 is a solid carbide boring insert in TPMT style, designed for precision internal boring operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. Manufactured to the TPMT322GP geometry with an HP520B grade designation, this insert features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD)-applied Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating for improved wear resistance and surface finish on a range of workpiece materials. The 60-degree triangular shape provides three usable cutting edges per insert. Key dimensional specs include a 3/8-inch inscribed circle (0.3750 inches), 1/8-inch thickness (0.1250 inches), and a 1/32-inch corner radius (0.0310 inches). A licensed machinist or CNC tooling technician is the typical installer.
This insert is suited for boring applications in precision machining environments, including general-purpose turning and internal diameter finishing operations. The GP chipbreaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during moderate material removal. The TPMT style and screw-holding method make this insert compatible with standard TPMT-style boring bars and toolholders used in both production and job-shop settings. The C5 material grade is appropriate for cutting cast iron, steel alloys, and similar ferrous workpiece materials at appropriate speeds and feeds per shop practice.

Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control placed in an E-stop or locked-out state per OSHA lockout/tagout requirements. Use the correct torx or hex key to torque the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or wear before seating the new insert. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid edge chipping prior to first use.
