The HERTEL H-8119A127000 is a single-ended spotting drill designed to create precise starter holes that guide follow-on twist drills and reduce walking on metal workpieces. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tool features a 90-degree drill point angle and a 0.5000-inch cutting diameter. The 2-inch overall length and straight-cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual lathes. A web-thinned construction reduces thrust force at entry, promoting cleaner, more accurate spot locations in general-purpose machining applications.
This spotting drill is suited for general-purpose metal cutting in job shop, maintenance, and production environments. The right-hand cutting direction and spiral flute geometry are optimized for ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a precise, well-defined center mark is required before drilling or countersinking. At 2 inches overall length, it is particularly useful in tight-clearance setups where a shorter tool reduces deflection and improves positioning accuracy. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators working in fabrication shops and manufacturing facilities are the primary users of this tool.
Designed as a general-purpose spotting drill for use in standard drill chucks, collet holders, and toolholders accepting a 0.5000-inch straight-cylindrical shank on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators familiar with proper tool-holding procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of chips before seating the shank. Verify that runout is within acceptable limits for your application before beginning a production run. Follow all applicable shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines when setting speeds and feeds.
