The HERTEL GH071048 is a single-end square end mill ground from M7 high speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating. It carries a 3/4 inch cutting diameter, a 3 inch length of cut, and a 5-1/4 inch overall length, placing it in the long-series category. The 42-degree spiral flute geometry promotes aggressive chip evacuation while the TiN finish extends surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS tooling. With a 3/4 inch straight shank, this end mill seats in standard ER and side-lock toolholders found on most knee mills, bed mills, and CNC machining centers. Installation and operation are handled by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in general machining, mold work, and maintenance applications.
This end mill is suited for slotting, peripheral milling, and plunge operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a long reach is required to clear fixtures or machine deep pockets. The centercutting design allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled hole, which simplifies setup on manual and CNC equipment. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is the industry standard for conventional and climb milling on vertical spindles. The long series length makes it well-suited for deep-cavity work in mold bases, die blocks, and structural weldments where a standard-length tool would not reach.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling selection for any machine spindle accepting a 3/4 inch straight shank end mill, including vertical knee mills, bed mills, and CNC machining centers equipped with ER collet chucks, Weldon side-lock holders, or equivalent toolholding systems.
End mills of this type are installed and changed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Always de-energize and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or removing cutting tools. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder to the recommended engagement depth and torque the drawbar or set screw per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the collet or holder bore for chips and wear before each setup, as a dirty or worn bore will compromise runout and reduce tool life.
