The HERTEL GG040032 is a 4-flute square end mill designed for milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from M7 high speed steel with a spiral flute geometry and a 30-degree helix angle, it delivers consistent chip evacuation and edge integrity across a range of cutting conditions. The 0.5-inch mill diameter pairs with a 2-inch length of cut, giving machinists adequate reach for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in typical production and job-shop setups. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation follow standard convention. The centercutting design allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole, expanding its versatility on manual mills and CNC machining centers alike.
This end mill suits general-purpose milling in a wide variety of shop environments, including production machining, toolroom work, and maintenance applications. The regular-length configuration keeps deflection manageable in conventional vertical milling and CNC operations. At 0.5 inches diameter with a matching 0.5-inch shank, it fits standard ER and straight-bore collet chucks without adapters. No chipbreaker geometry means this tool is best applied in continuous-cut scenarios rather than interrupted heavy roughing passes.
Designed as a standard 0.5-inch shank square end mill compatible with ER collet chucks, straight-bore tool holders, and side-lock holders sized for 1/2-inch shank tooling on vertical mills and CNC machining centers.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine in a full stop and energy isolated per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the shank fully in the collet or holder before torquing to the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use and replace the tool when edge wear produces oversized cuts or increased cutting noise. Follow your machine tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for M7 HSS end mills at this diameter.
