The HERTEL G127220K-S is a standard pipe tap designed to cut National Pipe Taper Fuel (NPTF) threads in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high speed steel with a chrome finish, it delivers the hardness and wear resistance needed for production tapping and maintenance work on pipe fittings, manifolds, and hydraulic or pneumatic components. The 1/4-18 thread size is one of the most common pipe thread configurations in plumbing, HVAC, and fluid-power applications. With 4 flutes and a regular hook geometry, this tap cuts clean threads and evacuates chips efficiently in through-hole and shallow-depth applications. Machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians reach for this size daily.
This tap is suited for threading 1/4-inch NPT and NPTF ports in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and brass workpieces. Common applications include pipe fitting adapters, instrument ports, hydraulic manifold blocks, refrigeration service valves, and HVAC equipment housings where a pressure-tight tapered thread is required. NPTF threads are engineered to seal on the thread form itself without relying solely on tape or sealant, making proper tap selection and technique critical in fluid and gas systems.
Designed as a standard OEM-style pipe tap for use in any application requiring a 1/4-18 NPTF taper thread. Compatible with standard tap wrenches, T-handles, and CNC tap holders sized for a 0.5626 inch shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist, pipefitter, or maintenance technician familiar with tapping procedures. Always secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and apply appropriate cutting fluid for the base material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Follow NPTF gaging procedures to verify thread form and seal integrity before assembly. Do not force a tap that encounters unexpected resistance, as this risks breakage and workpiece damage.
