The HERTEL FLA-250/D6 is a lathe chuck adapter back plate designed to mount 10-inch adjustable self-centering chucks to spindles with a D1-6 cam-lock nose. Machined from steel, it provides a rigid, precise interface between the lathe spindle and chuck body. The back plate measures 10 inches in outside diameter with a 3-inch through-hole, allowing bar stock to pass through the spindle bore. A flange height of 2-3/32 inches positions the chuck face at the correct standoff distance. At 21 pounds, this is a substantial component suited to mid-size engine lathes. Installation requires a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with cam-lock spindle tooling.
This back plate is intended for use on metal-cutting lathes equipped with an ANSI D1-6 cam-lock spindle nose. It is compatible with the D Series adjustable self-centering chuck family, making it a direct mounting solution for 10-inch chucks in that configuration. Typical applications include toolroom lathes, job-shop engine lathes, and production turning centers where a secure, repeatable chuck-to-spindle interface is required. The inside diameter of 5-45/64 inches accommodates the corresponding chuck pilot diameter for proper registration and runout control.
Designed for use with D Series adjustable self-centering chucks on lathes fitted with a D1-6 cam-lock spindle nose. Compatible with 10-inch chuck diameter configurations in that series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with experience in spindle tooling and cam-lock chuck mounting. Power down and lock out the lathe before handling any spindle-mounted components. Verify that all cam-lock studs are fully engaged and torqued per the lathe manufacturer's specification before operation. Inspect the spindle nose and back plate mating surfaces for burrs or debris prior to mounting to maintain concentricity and safe chuck retention.
