The HERTEL F.901.3731 is a reduced shank drill bit designed for boring large-diameter holes in metal, wood, and general-purpose materials using a standard 3/4-inch chuck. The bit measures 1.4688 inches (1-15/32 inches) in diameter with a 118-degree split-point angle, which is the standard geometry for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of shop and field applications. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 3/4 inches in diameter and 2-1/4 inches in length, allowing it to seat securely in most drill presses, lathes, or heavy-duty hand drills equipped with a 3/4-inch capacity chuck. The body is machined from high-speed steel with an oxide finish that helps reduce friction and provides light corrosion resistance during storage and use.
This bit is suited for general-purpose production and maintenance drilling where a reduced shank design is required to fit standard chuck sizes when boring oversized holes. The 6-inch overall length and 3-inch flute length support drilling depths up to 3 inches, making it appropriate for through-hole and blind-hole work in fabrication shops, mechanical rooms, and field service environments. Machinists, pipefitters, millwrights, and maintenance technicians are the primary users. It performs well on mild steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar machinable materials at appropriate feed and speed rates for high-speed steel tooling.
Designed as a general-purpose reduced shank drill bit compatible with drill presses, lathes, and heavy-duty drilling equipment fitted with a 3/4-inch capacity chuck.
Installation of this bit should be performed by a qualified machinist or tradesperson familiar with drill press or lathe operation. Secure the shank firmly in a properly sized chuck before operation and verify the bit runs true before feeding into the workpiece. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the material being drilled to extend tool life and maintain hole quality. Always wear appropriate PPE including eye protection when operating drilling equipment.
