The HERTEL E4053048 is a 4-flute cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in ferrous and high-strength materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this double-end tool delivers extended wear resistance and improved cutting performance over standard HSS end mills. The 3/4 inch diameter with a 30-degree spiral helix and right-hand cut geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces heat buildup during aggressive cuts. Centercutting capability allows direct plunging into the workpiece. Machinists and tooling technicians working in production and job-shop environments rely on this geometry for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling applications.
This end mill suits metalworking operations involving steel, stainless steel, and other tough alloys where cobalt tooling outperforms standard HSS. The 1-5/8 inch length of cut accommodates medium-depth passes without excessive deflection. At 5-5/8 inches overall length with a matched 3/4 inch shank diameter, it fits standard collets and end mill holders on vertical and horizontal machining centers, knee mills, and manual bridgeport-style machines. The regular-length classification makes it well suited for most general-purpose side milling and slotting work where extended-reach tooling is not required.
Designed as a standard 3/4 inch shank square end mill compatible with 3/4 inch collets, end mill holders, and set-screw holders used on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and similar milling equipment.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully and evenly in the holder and verify runout with a dial indicator before production cuts. Do not exceed the holder manufacturer's recommended clamping torque specifications for the holder type in use.
