The HERTEL E4030905 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations in metal cutting applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS tooling. The 3/4 inch cutting diameter and 2-flute geometry make it well suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling. A TiN (titanium nitride) coating reduces friction at the cutting edge and extends tool life. The centercutting design allows plunge cuts directly into workpiece material without a pre-drilled entry point. This end mill is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on manual or CNC milling machines.
This end mill is used in job shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production machining environments where cobalt tooling is preferred over carbide for its toughness and resistance to chipping on interrupted cuts. The 1-5/16 inch length of cut provides adequate reach for moderate-depth slots and pockets. The 5/8 inch shank diameter fits standard R8, CAT, BT, and straight-bore tool holders commonly found on knee mills and vertical machining centers. It is appropriate for cutting ferrous materials including alloy steels, tool steels, stainless steels, and cast iron at controlled feeds and speeds.
Designed as a standard shank end mill compatible with tool holders accepting a 5/8 inch straight shank, including R8 collets, ER collet chucks, and side-lock holders used on vertical milling machines and machining centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard tooling practices. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. The shank should be inserted to the full recommended engagement depth in the tool holder and secured according to the holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before taking initial cuts, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and reduces part accuracy.
