The HERTEL E4030904 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling, slotting, profiling, and contouring operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers improved wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS tooling. The cutter measures 0.75 inches in diameter with a 1.3125-inch length of cut and a 0.5-inch shank diameter, giving it a compact, rigid geometry suited to knee mills, bed mills, and CNC machining centers. Two spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote chip evacuation and reduce cutting forces. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece without a pre-drilled hole.
This end mill is used in general-purpose metalworking applications including peripheral milling, slot cutting, and step milling. It is a regular-length tool, making it a common choice for setups that require a balance of reach and rigidity. Right-hand cut with right-hand flute configuration is the standard orientation for conventional milling spindles. The cobalt-M42 substrate makes it a practical upgrade over M2 HSS in applications involving stainless steels, alloy steels, and other harder-to-machine materials where heat buildup is a concern.
Designed as a general-purpose square end mill for use in standard milling chucks, collet holders, and end mill holders accepting a 0.5-inch shank diameter.
Installation is performed by machining professionals using an appropriate end mill holder or collet rated for the 0.5-inch shank. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Verify runout with a dial indicator after seating the tool to confirm concentricity before cutting. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling manufacturer guidelines for speeds and feeds appropriate to the workpiece material and depth of cut.
