The HERTEL E299914104 is a cobalt square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in ferrous and tough alloy materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it offers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS tooling. The 0.5 inch cutting diameter pairs with a 1-5/8 inch length of cut and a 30-degree helix angle for efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. With four spiral flutes and a right-hand cut orientation, this end mill is a workhorse for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling on manual and CNC machines alike. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals reach for cobalt end mills when cutting stainless steel, hardened steel, cast iron, and other demanding materials that wear standard HSS tooling prematurely.
This end mill is suited for job shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments running vertical mills, knee mills, or CNC machining centers. The regular-length geometry and 0.5 inch shank fit standard ER collets, end mill holders, and Weldon-style tool holders. The centercutting design allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole, giving the machinist flexibility in toolpath strategies including ramping and helical interpolation. Right-hand flute direction and right-hand cut make this a conventional setup with no special spindle requirements.
Designed as a standard 0.5 inch shank square end mill compatible with ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style tool holders used on vertical mills and CNC machining centers.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Seat the shank fully into the tool holder and torque the retention fastener per the tool holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut — excessive runout accelerates edge wear and can cause chatter. Use appropriate cutting fluid or mist coolant for the workpiece material to maintain tool life and surface finish.
