The HERTEL E299914048 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations in ferrous and hard materials where high-speed steel tooling lacks sufficient heat resistance. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this end mill runs uncoated and delivers consistent performance in face milling, slotting, and profiling applications. It carries a 15/16-inch (0.9375-inch) cutting diameter with a 1-7/8-inch length of cut, a 7/8-inch shank diameter, and a 4-1/8-inch overall length. The 4-flute, 30-degree right-hand spiral geometry supports efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting action. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers and operators of this tooling.
This end mill is suited for general-purpose machining on vertical and horizontal milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills. Its regular-length configuration fits standard tool holders used in job shop and production environments. The centercutting design allows plunge cutting in addition to conventional peripheral and slot milling, expanding its range of viable operations without a dedicated drilling operation first. It is well matched to medium-to-heavy material removal in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron where elevated cutting temperatures are anticipated.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use cobalt square end mill compatible with standard 7/8-inch straight-shank tool holders and collet systems on vertical mills and CNC machining centers.
Installation and operation of this tooling should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with end mill selection, speeds, and feeds for cobalt HSS. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Verify tool holder runout is within acceptable limits before engaging a cut, as excessive runout accelerates wear and can cause premature breakage. Always apply appropriate cutting fluid when machining ferrous materials to manage heat buildup at the cutting edge.
