The HERTEL E2053032 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention in demanding cutting applications. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting ends, extending tool life and value per tool. With a 0.5-inch diameter, a 1-inch length of cut, and a 30-degree helix angle on a spiral flute profile, this end mill is suited for slotting, peripheral milling, and profiling where consistent chip evacuation and edge geometry are critical. Machinists and tool-room professionals specify cobalt end mills when carbide is cost-prohibitive or where tool toughness outweighs top-end speed.
This end mill is used in vertical machining centers, knee mills, and manual milling machines for general-purpose milling of steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry into the workpiece without a pre-drilled hole, making it versatile for pocketing and contour work. The regular-length configuration fits standard toolholders and collet chucks in most shop setups. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional spindle-direction machining.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use cobalt square end mill for 1/2-inch straight-shank collet chucks, end mill holders, and set-screw toolholders used in standard vertical and horizontal milling machine setups.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard toolroom practices. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended engagement depth and torque set screws or collet nuts to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before taking cuts, and select feeds, speeds, and depths of cut appropriate for the workpiece material and machine rigidity.
