The HERTEL E2036040 is a cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations that require extended reach and durability. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers hardness and heat resistance suited to tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 5/8 inch diameter cutter features 4 flutes with a 30-degree right-hand helix and a spiral flute form, providing efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. With a 4 inch length of cut and 6.125 inch overall length, this extra-long configuration is the right tool when standard-length end mills cannot reach the floor of deep pockets or tall workpieces. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this tool in vertical mills, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills.
This end mill is suited for slotting, peripheral milling, and profiling operations in production and job-shop environments. The extra-long length of cut, starting at 2 inches and extending to 4 inches, supports deep-cavity work in molds, dies, and structural components. The bright uncoated finish is appropriate for applications where coating adhesion or heat buildup is not a primary concern. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional CNC and manual milling setups. This tool is not center-cutting, so it is not intended for plunge entry.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute for standard 5/8 inch cobalt square end mills used in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines equipped with R8, CAT, or comparable collet and end mill holder systems accepting a 5/8 inch shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Secure the shank fully within the collet or end mill holder to the recommended engagement depth before tightening — insufficient engagement increases deflection and risk of pull-out. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Do not use this tool for plunge cutting, as it is not center-cutting.
