The HERTEL E2021064 is a single-end ball end mill designed for profiling, contouring, and 3D milling operations in ferrous and harder work materials. Ground from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this tool maintains cutting-edge integrity at elevated temperatures, making it well suited for stainless steels, tool steels, and high-nickel alloys. It runs a 4-flute spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle, providing a balance of chip evacuation and surface finish. The 1-inch cutting diameter and 4-inch length of cut allow access to deep pockets and tall workpiece features without sacrificing rigidity. The uncoated finish makes resharpening straightforward.
This end mill is used in vertical machining centers and manual knee mills for die and mold work, fixture fabrication, and general-purpose profiling. The 1-inch shank diameter fits standard ER, Weldon, and side-lock holders commonly found in job shop and production environments. With a 6.5-inch overall length and a right-hand cut and flute direction, it is a conventional choice for programs calling for climb or conventional milling passes on medium-to-hard materials. It is sold as a single-end tool, so once the cutting end is worn beyond regrind tolerance, the shank end is not used for cutting.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or stock end mill for any machine tool spindle accepting a 1-inch straight shank, including standard ER collet chucks, Weldon flat holders, and side-lock arbors.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the shank is clean and seated to the recommended engagement depth in the holder before torquing set screws or collet nuts. Verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting; excessive runout accelerates flute chipping on cobalt tooling. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety standards when setting feeds and speeds.
