The HERTEL E2020056 is a single-end cobalt ball end mill designed for milling contoured surfaces, slots, and three-dimensional profiles in a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS tooling. The 0.875 inch cutting diameter and 1.875 inch length of cut make it well suited for medium-depth profiling passes. With four flutes and a 30-degree right-hand spiral helix, it provides a balance of chip evacuation and surface finish quality. The 0.875 inch straight shank and 4.125 inch overall length fit standard end mill holders and collet chucks used on vertical mills and machining centers.
This end mill is used in general metalworking and tool room applications where cobalt tooling is preferred over carbide for its toughness and regrindability. Typical applications include profiling, contouring, and pocket milling in alloy steels, stainless steels, cast iron, and hardened materials up to approximately 45 HRC. It is a single-end tool, meaning it is intended to be resharpened from the cutting end when worn rather than flipped. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC operators working in job shop or production environments are the primary users.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling option for any machine tool spindle accepting a 0.875 inch straight-shank end mill, including vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC bed mills equipped with ER, R8, or equivalent collet systems.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool from its holder. Seat the shank to the recommended engagement depth per the holder manufacturer's specification and torque the set screw or collet nut appropriately using a calibrated torque wrench. Verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing the cut, as excessive runout accelerates wear and degrades surface finish on ball-end profiling operations.
