The HERTEL E2020020 is a single-end cobalt ball end mill designed for milling curved surfaces, contours, and three-dimensional profiles in metalworking applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this tool delivers heat and wear resistance needed for cutting ferrous and harder alloy materials. The ball nose geometry produces a full-radius cutting profile at the tip, making it suited for finishing passes and complex die or mold work. With a 0.3125 inch (5/16 inch) diameter, a 0.75 inch length of cut, and a 4-flute spiral configuration, it balances material removal rate with surface finish quality on CNC mills and manual knee mills alike.
This end mill is used in job shops, tool-and-die operations, and general machining environments where contour milling, radius slotting, or profiling operations are required. The 30-degree right-hand helix and right-hand cutting direction promote efficient chip evacuation and reduce chatter during peripheral and plunge cuts. The uncoated finish makes it a straightforward choice for applications where re-sharpening or lower-cost tooling is preferred over coated alternatives. It fits 3/8 inch collet or end mill holder setups standard on most vertical machining centers and manual mills.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling option for 3/8 inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and shrink-fit holders used on vertical machining centers and manual knee mills accepting right-hand cutting tools.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety protocols. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the minimum insertion depth required for the holder type, and torque set screws or collet nuts to the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates wear on small-diameter ball end mills.
