The HERTEL E2020016 is a single-end cobalt ball end mill designed for milling contoured surfaces, slots, and complex 3D profiles in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers improved heat resistance and edge retention compared to standard HSS tooling. The 0.25 inch diameter cutting head features four right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle, producing a smooth chip evacuation and consistent finish. At 2.4375 inches overall length with a 0.375 inch shank, it fits standard collet chucks and tool holders used on manual mills and CNC machining centers. No coating is applied, leaving the tool in its ground cobalt finish.
This end mill is suited for general machining work in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments. The ball-nose geometry makes it appropriate for profiling, contouring, and finishing passes on mold cavities, die surfaces, and curved part features. The regular-length configuration and right-hand cutting direction make it a straightforward fit for vertical machining centers and knee mills. It is intended for use by machinists, tool and die makers, and CNC operators working in steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar materials where cobalt tooling is the appropriate choice over carbide in interrupted-cut or low-rigidity setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling option for manual mills and CNC machining centers accepting a 0.375 inch shank end mill holder or collet chuck.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Secure the shank fully within the collet or end mill holder to the recommended engagement depth before tightening. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Verify runout with a dial indicator after seating to avoid accelerated tool wear or workpiece damage.
