The HERTEL E103901001 is a 4-flute cobalt square end mill designed for milling operations in ferrous and high-strength materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers better heat resistance and edge retention than standard HSS tooling, making it a reliable choice for slotting, side milling, and peripheral cuts. The cutter measures 0.1563 inches (5/32 inch) in diameter with a 0.5-inch length of cut and mounts on a 0.375-inch (3/8 inch) shank. The uncoated finish suits applications where a coating would add unnecessary cost or complicate regrinding. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill fits conventional vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC milling equipment used in job shop, maintenance, and production environments. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry, giving the operator flexibility to drill-then-mill or plunge directly into the workpiece. The 30-degree helix angle supports chip evacuation in both dry and flood-coolant conditions. Applications include slotting and profiling in steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar materials where cobalt tooling is specified over carbide for its toughness and regrindability.
Designed as a standard square end mill for use in any milling machine or machining center that accepts a 3/8-inch diameter round shank, including manual knee mills and CNC vertical mills.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with cutting tool practices. De-energize and lock out the machine spindle before installing or removing the end mill. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder rated for the 3/8-inch shank diameter to ensure concentric runout within acceptable limits. Verify spindle speed and feed rate against published cutting data for the workpiece material before engaging the cut.
