The HERTEL C.E96.S8B is an 8-piece reduced shank cobalt drill bit set covering fractional sizes from 9/16 inch up to 1 inch in 1/16-inch step increments. All bits are manufactured from cobalt high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, suited for drilling hard and abrasive materials including stainless steel, cast iron, and high-alloy steels. The reduced shank design allows all eight bits to be chucked in a standard 1/2-inch drill chuck despite ranging up to 1 inch in diameter. The 118-degree standard point angle provides good centering on most materials without requiring a spot drill. Bits ship in a metal storage case. Total set weight is 4.7 pounds.
This set is used in metal fabrication, maintenance and repair, mechanical contracting, and industrial production environments where a range of large-diameter holes is needed without changing chuck size. The 3-inch flute length provides adequate chip clearance for moderate-depth holes. Machinists, pipefitters, millwrights, and maintenance technicians use sets like this for drilling through structural steel, pipe flanges, pump housings, and plate stock. The metal storage case keeps bits organized and protected between uses on the job site or in the shop.
Designed for use in any drill press or hand drill with a 1/2-inch or larger chuck capacity. Suitable for drilling ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar hard materials where cobalt tooling is specified.
Always secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and set spindle speed appropriate for the bit diameter and material being drilled — larger diameter bits require lower RPM. Use cutting fluid when drilling steel or stainless to extend bit life and manage heat. Inspect shank seating in the chuck before each use to ensure full engagement. Wear appropriate eye protection and follow shop safety practices when operating drill presses or handheld power drills.
