The HERTEL C.E08.0794 is an extra length high-speed steel drill bit designed for general purpose drilling in metal, wood, and plastic where standard-length bits cannot reach. It features a 118-degree split or conventional point angle suited for most common materials and an oxide finish that provides moderate corrosion resistance and reduces friction during drilling. The bit measures 0.3125 inches (5/16 inch) in diameter with an overall length of 8 inches and a flute length of 5.5 inches, giving it the reach needed for deep-hole applications in production and maintenance environments. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and general metalworking shops are the primary users.
This bit is a practical choice for applications requiring extended reach beyond what a jobber-length drill can provide. Typical use cases include drilling through thick stock, cross-drilling assemblies, or reaching fastener locations obstructed by surrounding structure. The 2-flute geometry and oxide finish make it appropriate for ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as wood and composite materials, in both hand-held drill and drill press setups. It is sold individually and suits both shop and field applications.
Designed as a general purpose extra length drill bit compatible with standard 3/8-inch or larger drill chucks, drill presses, and milling machine spindles that accept straight-shank tooling in the 5/16-inch diameter range.
This bit is installed by a machinist or qualified technician into a compatible drill chuck or collet system. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped before drilling and that the drill is powered off and locked out before changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid for ferrous metals to extend bit life and improve cut quality. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace if the point is damaged to avoid workpiece damage or bit breakage.
