The HERTEL C.E07.1270 is a cobalt aircraft extension drill bit designed for drilling in tight or deep-access areas where a standard-length bit cannot reach. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a straw finish, this bit handles elevated heat and abrasive materials without losing hardness. It features a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry and web-thinned geometry that reduces thrust and walking on hard surfaces. The 12-inch overall length and 4.5-inch spiral flute length make it well suited to aircraft-style drilling applications in metals, composites, and structural materials. Right-hand cutting with a straight cylindrical shank rounds out a straightforward, dependable tool for production or field use.
This bit is used in aerospace maintenance, sheet metal fabrication, HVAC equipment manufacturing, and any application requiring extended reach through tight structures. The 1/2-inch diameter and straight cylindrical shank fit standard drill chucks without adapters. It meets NAS 907 standards, making it appropriate for use in aerospace and military maintenance environments. Two-flute spiral geometry clears chips efficiently in through-hole drilling operations in steel, stainless, aluminum, and high-strength alloys.
Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck or drill press accepting a 1/2-inch straight cylindrical shank.
A licensed machinist, aircraft mechanic, or experienced metalworker should install and operate this bit following applicable shop safety and aviation maintenance procedures. Secure the workpiece before drilling and use cutting fluid when working in hard metals to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Inspect the shank and flutes for wear or damage before each use. Follow applicable OSHA and aerospace maintenance code requirements for drilling operations in structural components.
