The HERTEL C.E07.1191 is a cobalt aircraft extension drill bit designed for drilling in hard and tough materials where standard-length bits cannot reach. Built to a 135-degree split point with web thinning, it self-centers on contact and reduces the thrust required to start a hole. The straw finish indicates the cobalt steel composition, which resists heat buildup during high-speed drilling. At 12 inches overall length with a 4.3125-inch spiral flute section, this bit is suited for deep-reach applications in aerospace, structural, and fabrication work. It carries a straight cylindrical shank at 15/32 inch and cuts right-hand with two flutes.
This bit is used in applications requiring extended reach into confined or deep structures, such as airframe assemblies, structural steel framing, and heavy fabrication setups. The cobalt construction handles harder alloys, stainless, and high-tensile materials that would quickly wear a standard high-speed steel bit. General-purpose rated, it is appropriate for production drilling and maintenance repair operations where consistent hole quality at depth is required. Machinists, aircraft maintenance technicians, and industrial fabricators are the typical end users.
Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks and equipment accepting a 15/32-inch cylindrical shank.
Installation is performed by machinists and maintenance technicians using standard drill presses, mag drills, or hand drill equipment with a compatible chuck. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify chuck key removal before powering on. Reduce feed pressure when breaking through the far side of the workpiece to prevent bit grab or workpiece movement. Cobalt bits should be run at appropriate speeds for the material being drilled — excessive speed without adequate feed can cause premature edge wear.
