The HERTEL C.E07.0518 is a cobalt aircraft extension drill bit designed for drilling through tough materials in applications where standard-length bits fall short. Built to a size 6 wire gauge (0.2040 inches decimal), this bit features a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on hard surfaces. The straw finish cobalt construction provides heat resistance during high-speed drilling in steel, stainless, cast iron, and other hard metals. At 12 inches overall length, it reaches into deep cavities, structural assemblies, and confined airframe or machinery bores where shorter bits cannot reach. Licensed trades and aerospace maintenance professionals are the primary installers of this tool.
This aircraft extension drill bit is suited for aerospace, automotive, structural fabrication, and general industrial applications requiring extended reach. The 2.5-inch spiral flute length provides efficient chip evacuation during deep-hole operations. The straight cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks without modification. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional drill presses, cordless drills, and pneumatic air drills common in trade and maintenance environments. Meets NAS 907 standards for aircraft extension drill bits.
Designed as an OEM-style aircraft extension drill bit conforming to NAS 907 standards, suitable for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 0.2040-inch straight cylindrical shank.
This bit is installed and used by machinists, aircraft maintenance technicians, and metalworking tradespeople. Secure the straight shank fully in the drill chuck before operation and verify chuck tightness to prevent slippage during extended-reach drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling hardened steels or stainless to extend tool life and manage heat. Inspect the cutting edges and split point for wear before each use; a dull cobalt bit generates excess heat and can work-harden the workpiece.
