The HERTEL C.E06.0480 is a cobalt aircraft extension drill bit designed for drilling into hard metals, high-strength alloys, and tough materials common in aerospace, automotive, and industrial applications. Built to wire gauge size No. 12 with a decimal diameter of 0.1890 inches, this bit features a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact, reducing walking and the need for a center punch. The straw finish indicates the cobalt alloy composition and provides moderate heat resistance. At 6 inches overall length, it reaches into areas that standard-length bits cannot access. Licensed HVAC, metalworking, and maintenance technicians regularly specify cobalt extension bits for confined-space drilling tasks.
This drill bit is suited for use on stainless steel, hardened steel, cast iron, titanium, and other difficult-to-machine materials found in aerospace and heavy industrial environments. The extended length makes it appropriate for drilling through structural members, deep cavities, or stacked materials where clearance is limited. It meets NAS 907 standards, making it appropriate for aerospace maintenance and manufacturing workflows where material traceability and dimensional tolerance are required.
Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks; conforms to NAS 907 standards for aerospace maintenance and industrial machining applications.
This bit is installed and operated by machinists, maintenance technicians, and aerospace service professionals using standard drill presses, magnetic drills, or hand-held power drills with a compatible straight-shank chuck. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and use cutting fluid appropriate for the base material to extend bit life and manage heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and discard the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed. Follow applicable shop safety standards and material-specific drilling procedures when working with hardened or exotic alloys.
