The HERTEL C.E05.1270 is a 1/2-inch aircraft extension drill bit engineered for deep-reach drilling applications where a standard-length bit cannot access the work area. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it features a 135-degree split point that is self-centering and reduces walking on entry without a center punch. The extended 12-inch overall length combined with a 4.5-inch spiral flute delivers efficient chip evacuation during deep-hole drilling. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks. This bit is suited for use by machinists, aircraft maintenance technicians, sheet metal workers, and general trade professionals requiring extended reach in steel, aluminum, and similar materials.
Aircraft extension drill bits like the C.E05.1270 are used in applications where standard jobber-length bits cannot reach the bore location. Common scenarios include drilling through structural panels, deep cavity work in fabrication, and maintenance applications on aircraft airframes or HVAC equipment housings. The 12-inch overall length and right-hand spiral flute geometry make it practical for both handheld and drill-press use. The tapered web and web-thinned configuration reduce thrust requirements, making the bit easier to drive in extended-reach setups.
Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 1/2-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation is performed by machinists, sheet metal workers, and maintenance technicians using a hand drill or drill press with a standard 1/2-inch or larger chuck capacity. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent movement during extended-reach operations. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being drilled to prolong bit life and reduce heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use, as extended-length bits are subject to increased deflection forces that can accelerate edge degradation.
