The HERTEL C.E05.0884 is an aircraft extension drill bit sized to Letter S (0.3480 inches decimal equivalent) with a 135-degree split point and a 12-inch overall length. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it is designed for deep-reach drilling in aerospace and industrial applications where standard-length bits cannot access the workpoint. The 135-degree split point is self-centering, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on entry. The web-thinned, tapered web construction lowers thrust requirements and improves chip evacuation in harder materials. Licensed trade mechanics and precision machinists are the primary installers.
This bit is suited for drilling in aircraft structures, engine mounts, and deep-cavity assemblies where extended reach is required. It also sees use in industrial fabrication and maintenance work involving deep bores in ferrous and non-ferrous stock. The spiral flute geometry with right-hand cutting direction handles general-purpose production drilling and maintenance repair operations. Its 3.5-inch flute length provides adequate chip clearance even at extended depth. Meets NAS 907 standards, making it appropriate for aerospace-grade applications where dimensional and material compliance is required.
Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit for use in aerospace structural drilling, deep-cavity machining, and industrial maintenance applications requiring extended reach at Letter S diameter.
Installation is performed by licensed machinists, aircraft mechanics, or qualified maintenance technicians using a drill press, magnetic base drill, or air-powered drill motor. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and confirm spindle speed is appropriate for the material and bit diameter. Inspect the bit for chips or cracks before each use; do not use a damaged bit. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and relevant aerospace maintenance standards when working on certificated aircraft structure.
