The HERTEL C.E05.0450 is an aircraft extension drill bit designed for deep-reach drilling applications where a standard-length bit cannot access the workpoint. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, this bit measures 12 inches in overall length and carries a wire size 16 designation, equal to 0.177 inches in decimal. The 135-degree split point is self-centering and web-thinned, reducing thrust force on entry and eliminating the need for a center punch on most metal surfaces. Two spiral flutes clear chips efficiently through the 2.1875-inch flute length. Right-hand cutting direction and a straight cylindrical shank round out the design. This bit meets NAS 907 standards and is suited for general-purpose metalworking tasks in aerospace, automotive, and industrial maintenance environments.
This aircraft extension drill bit is used where extended reach is required to bore through structural panels, frames, or assemblies that a jobber-length bit cannot reach. The 12-inch overall length makes it a practical choice for drilling in confined cavities, interior aircraft structures, or deep box sections. Machinists, aerospace mechanics, and maintenance technicians are the primary users. The bit performs in steel, aluminum, and similar metals at standard drilling speeds appropriate for high-speed steel tooling.
Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit suitable for use in handheld and machine-mounted drilling operations on steel, aluminum, and similar metals where wire size 16 (0.177 inches) diameter is required.
Installation of this drill bit is performed by machinists, aerospace mechanics, or maintenance technicians using a compatible drill chuck sized for a 0.177-inch straight cylindrical shank. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and confirm the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement. Use cutting fluid appropriate for the base material to extend tool life and maintain hole quality. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use, as a damaged split point will reduce self-centering performance and hole accuracy.
