The HERTEL C.E04.0151 is a wire-gauge aircraft extension drill bit engineered for deep-reach drilling applications in aerospace and precision metalworking. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it carries a wire size designation of 53 (0.0595 inches decimal equivalent) and features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and improves starting accuracy on metal surfaces. The extended 12-inch overall length is the defining characteristic of this bit, allowing technicians to reach fastener locations and structural members that standard-length drills cannot access. Two spiral flutes with a web-thinned, tapered web configuration promote chip evacuation during drilling.
This bit is suited for use in aircraft maintenance, structural fabrication, and sheet-metal work where deep-hole access is required. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without an adapter. General-purpose tool performance rating makes it appropriate for a range of ferrous and non-ferrous metals commonly encountered in aviation and industrial maintenance environments. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional drill press and hand-drill applications. The bit meets NAS 907 standards, which are commonly referenced in aerospace tooling specifications.
Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit for use with standard straight-shank drill chucks in hand drills, right-angle drills, and drill presses used in aerospace maintenance and sheet-metal fabrication.
Installation of this bit is performed by licensed airframe mechanics, machinists, or qualified metalworking technicians. Secure the straight cylindrical shank firmly in the drill chuck before use and confirm the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being drilled to extend tool life and improve hole finish. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
